Growing up, one of my dreams was to be a musician. That never happened because the talent wasn't there to take me to where I wanted to go, and I knew I'd never make it to Juilliard. But that love for music was always part of me, and at some point I realized that even if I couldn't write a song, I could try to write something that sounded music on a page. That's how Starlight from the Deep Blue became a poetry collection.
From a young age, my mind was always running. Someone could hand me a single pencil and I would immediately imagine its life, where it came from, what the marks and scratches on it meant, what it had been through, and what it might feel like as it reached the end of its use. As I got older, those ideas didn't slow down. If anything, they multiplied until it felt like too many thoughts were circling at once, overlapping and competing for space, and writing became how I sorted through them.
I think of this collection as a story buffet. Each poem brings something different to the table, and I put a lot of myself into every single one. I hope you enjoy it.
